In this study I would like to examine the meaning and significance of the number vii.
Nachmanides (12th century Spain) explains a beautiful kabbalistic concept: Seven is the number of the natural earth. There are seven days in the week, vii notes on the musical scale and 7 directions (left, right, up, down, forward, back and center). Seven - represented by the 7 days of Sukkot, is the world of nature. Eight, represented by Shemini Atzeret, is that which is beyond nature.
The Sages teach that seven are the attributes of physicality:
- Height
- Width
- Depth
- Superlative and bottom (limits superlative)
- Front end and back (limits width)
- Left and right (limits depth)
- The connecting of the other vi
The Maharal finds that the week itself is based on a principal idea. He attributes the symbolism of six and 7 to the construction of space: When you lot look closely you will find that the physical has six opposing sides, which are: height and lesser, right and left, front end and back. All these six sides are related to the physical, considering each side has extent, and limits physical objects. But, it also has in information technology a seventh, and this is the centre, which has no exposure on any side. Considering it is not related to any side it is like the non-concrete, which has no extension [takes up no volume of space]. [1]
The cube, as a geometric shape, readily shows these attributes:
Vi things of equal size, for case circles or apples, exactly fit around a 7th circumvolve (in the center) of the aforementioned size. So, if you draw a circle of any particular size, you tin draw exactly 6 circles of the same size effectually that primal circle, no more than and no less (if you want them all to touch). This idea relates to the concept that the seventh is actually at the center and is the focus of the other half-dozen.
The connecting of the half dozen attributes at the centre of the shape fundamentally reveals the nature of 7. It is used for connection. This leads naturally to the meaning of lxx which is an elevated connexion.
Naught can exist in the physical world without these seven attributes, cypher.
Every item in the physical globe must have these vii attributes and each of these seven must also exhibit the same 7 attributes.
If six stands for the physical creation and seven for the spiritual in the midst of the physical (Shabbat), and so eight stands for that which is completely exterior our world. It stands for the World to Come. [ii]
ז , zayin, is the seventh letter in the Hebrew aleph-bet. The gematria, the numerical equivalent, of the letter zayin is seven. The proper noun zayin means crown. At that place are actually crowns, called zayenin, [3] on many of the messages of the aleph-bet. For example, a zayin with its tagin, information technologys crowns, looks like this:
49 is seven times 7. When yous foursquare a number, it reaches its ultimate expression. It is the matter times itself; Cypher tin can be a greater revelation of essence than that. Thus, 49 is the furthest accomplish of seven-ness in this world. And seven is this world!
This is the meaning of the number forty-nine (49). Therefore, forty-nine, that is seven times seven, is a statement that seven defines physical reality.
From this we tin can understand that music that affects the body has seven notes in an octave (the 8th is a repeat of the offset):
Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La Ti, Do
This diatonic scale, in the hands of a skilled musician, will affect the trunk. In fact, if it is done correctly the body volition find information technology most impossible to resist such music.
The frequencies of such music have a correspondence in the world of color:
Purple blue | Exercise |
Red Crimson | Re |
Yellow | Mi |
Emerald green | Fa |
Orangish | Then |
Violet | La |
Purple | Ti |
Just as the vii notes in the octave tin can be combined into chords which makes harmonious music, and then also can the corresponding colors be combined to grade harmonious colors.
When the colors of calorie-free are combined they grade a white light. When the aforementioned colors in pigment are combined they course an earth color chocolate-brown. This teaches u.s. that the ethereal dimension of light produces white while the physical colors of pigment returns to the physical color of world.
Now that we understand a flake about the nature of seven as it relates to this physical earth, lets explore how Shabbat is related to the number vii.
I. Vii In Time
Shabbat is the seventh day of the week. This is no blow. Shabbat connects the six days of the week. All of the other days revolve around it. It serves as the center for the iii days before it and the three days later on information technology. [iv] Fifty-fifty though the seventh appears to be the terminal element in a linear progression, it is actually the core effectually which everything else revolves.
When the Torah wishes to requite a name to the first day of the week, it gives it a name that describes itdue south relationship to Shabbat, the beginning day of Shabbat, the second day of Shabbat, etc. And so information technology goes for the other vi days. The sixth solar day is chosen Erev Shabbat, the eve of the Sabbath. Thus Shabbat connects the half-dozen days of the week. (The chart at the end of this newspaper illustrates how the days revolve around Shabbat.)
When we [5] are called the nation that sanctifies the Seventh, we can understand this to refer to the Jewish people sanctifying that which is at the core, the Shabbat. Shabbat (likewise as other time-sevens such as the Breather twelvemonth of Shmita) are most resting and relying on HaShem. This hints to us that the core is most reliance on HaShem, but that the other six, be they days of the week, the vi years prior to Shmita, etc. are almost a struggle that stays centered on the core. [Working the six days of the week with an center toward Shabbat in a way that is holy and spiritual even though it is ordinary; working the fields in compliance with Torah, leaving the gleanings, the corners, etc. for six years with the fundamental realization that HaShem is the ultimate Provider non only during the Shmita year, merely all of the other years also]. Zayin seems to speak to us about the tension and paradox between struggle and letting go, finding balance between our endeavour, agile trust in HaShem and our passive trust in HaShem to provide our needs.
The Sages teach us that there are v things that nosotros should strive to accomplish on Shabbat:
- Eat the best food of the week.
- Engage in marital relations
- Rest
- Pray
- Report Torah
Each of these seven is used for connection:
- Nutrient connects the soul to the body
- Sex connects 2 concrete bodies
- Rest allows us to connect with the 6 days of work
- Prayer allows us to connect with HaShem
- Torah study allows u.s.a. to connect with a transcendent world.
Seven is also a office of 10 (10). Often i will find the number seven juxtaposed with the number x.
Armed with this understanding, lets expect in the Torah to begin to see how the Torah uses the number seven. The number 7 is first establish in:
Bereshit (Genesis) v:seven And Seth lived after he begat Enos 8 hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
This is where the concept of the number 7, was created.
Strongdue south defines the Hebrew, sheva (7), as:
7651 sheba`, sheh-bah; or (masc.) shib`ah, shib-aw; from 7650; a prim. central number; seven (as the sacred full one); also (adv.) 7 times; by impl. a week; past extens. an indefinite number:-(+ by) seven ([- fold], -s, [-teen, -teenth], -thursday, times). Comp. 7658.
----------------- Dictionary Trace ---------------
7650 shaba`, shaw-bah; a prim. root; prop. to exist complete, just used merely as a denom. from 7651; to 7 oneself, i.due east. swear (equally if by repeating a proclamation 7 times):-adjure, charge (past an oath, with an oath), feed to the full [by fault for 7646], take an oath, x straightly, (cause to, brand to) swear.
7658 shib`anah, shib-aw-naw; prol. for the masc. of 7651; seven:-seven.
And so, sheva, the Hebrew word for seven, comes from a root which means complete. The number seven represents concrete completion.
In the Tanach [6] and the Nazarean Codicil, nosotros observe the number vii, 463 times in 391 verses.
Seven times seven is 'forever' which is why the slave with the awl in his ear serves forever (seven times seven) until the Jubilee year.
Shemot (Exodus) 21:v And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my primary, my married woman, and my children; I will non go out free: 6 So his primary shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his main shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.
Kiddushin 21b AND ACQUIRES HIMSELF Past JUBILEE OR By HIS Master'S Expiry. For it is written: and he shall serve him [7] but not his son or daughter; for e'er until the eternity of jubilee.
Two. Seven In Creation
In the story of creation, constitute in Genesis, we find that the creation of the concrete world was markedly formed with seven and its multiples. Even the time of creation is marked by vii:
7 days of Cosmos.
In the cosmos story God saw is repeated 7 times. Sefer Yetzira explains that these vii repetitions parallel the 7 double messages c d south f p r , (letters which can be pronounced hard or soft) and the seven days of the week. The following is a list of the sevens and their multiples in the creation story of Bereshit (Genesis):
35 times God (Elohim) is establish.
seven times On the Earth (Hebrew simply) is found.
21 times Earth, globe, or land are institute.
seven times heaven(due south), heaven (excluding heavenly heaven) are plant.
7 times Good is establish.
7 times Water(southward) (below the heavens) are found.
vii times flying, fly, or birds are plant.
7 times crawls, walks, land animals are plant.
14 times day or days are found.
Thus, writes Nachmanides:
The outset 24-hour interval of creation, which saw the cosmos of calorie-free, embodies the first millennium of history--the millennium of Adam, whom the Midrash Tanchuma calls the calorie-free of the world, when the world was still saturated with noesis of its Creator and was sustained by the indiscriminate benevolence of Yard-d; the second solar day, on which the Creator distinguished between the spiritual and the physical elements of His cosmos, yielded a 2d millennium of judgment and discrimination--as reflected in the Flood which wiped out a corrupt humanity and spared only the righteous Noah and his family; the third day, on which the land emerged from the bounding main and sprouted forth greenery and fruit-bearing copse, encapsulates the third millennium, in which Abraham began teaching the truth of the I G-d and the Torah was given on Mountain Sinai; the fourth day, on which G-d created the sun and the moon, the two great luminaries: the greater luminary... and the lesser luminary, corresponds to the fourth millennium, in which the Offset Temple (2928-3338) and the Second Temple (3408-3829) in Jerusalem served as the divine abode from which light emanated to the unabridged world; the fifth day, the day of fish, birds and reptiles, unfolded into the lawless and predatory Night Ages of the fifth millennium (240-1240 CE. in the secular calendar); the sixth day, whose early hours saw the cosmos of the beasts of the land, followed past the creation of man, is our millennium--a millennium marked by strong, forceful empires, whose beastly rule will be followed by the emergence of Mashiach, the perfect man who brings to realization the divine purpose in cosmos and ushers in the seventh millennium--the World to Come--a time of perfect peace and tranquility.
I have written more on this subject in a paper titled: Redemption.
In that location were seven blessings given to Avraham.
There were vii blessings given to Yitzchak.
At that place were seven blessings given to Yaaqov.
Three. Seven In The Body
The torso, according to our Sages, is composed of seven major parts, namely: head, torso, right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, and the Brit Mila (the organ of circumcision).
It is also obvious that there are vii openings in the head. Like the menorah, the head has three openings on either side of the centerline of the head, with the mouth in the heart.
The body is divisional past 6 sides, yet the spirit connects to, and animates, all of them.
IV. 7 In Sound
Music speaks to the soul and to the body. When the music is done correctly it moves us. The Torah talks about how proper music can make an evil spirit depart:
one Shmuel (Samuel) 16:14-23 Just the spirit of HaShem departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from HaShem troubled him. And Sauldue south servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now control thy servants, [which are] before thee, to seek out a homo, [who is] a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and yard shalt exist well. And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that tin play well, and bring [him] to me. Then answered i of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite , [that is] cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant homo, and a human of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and HaShem [is] with him. Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which [is] with the sheep. And Jesse took an ass [laden] with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent [them] by David his son unto Saul. And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer. And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath constitute favor in my sight. And information technology came to pass, when the [evil] spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his mitt: and then Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
Music that moves us is music which is based on a seven tone scale. The 1997 World Book Encyclopedia details this for usa:
Tone is whatsoever musical sound of definite pitch. Most music is based on a calibration, a particular set of tones arranged co-ordinate to rising or falling pitch. Western musicians proper noun the tones, or notes, of a scale with the beginning seven letters of the alphabet--A, B, C, D, Eastward, F, and 1000 (exercise re mi fa and then la ti). The letters are repeated every eight notes. The distance betwixt a note and the next highest note with the same proper name, such equally C to C, is called an octave. The college note has twice every bit many vibrations per second every bit the lower note, and the 2 notes audio very similar. A notation may exist raised or lowered slightly in pitch to produce a tone halfway between information technology and the note next to it. The half tone above a note is called its sharp, and the one-half tone below a note is called its flat.
A chromatic scale consists entirely of half steps. It has twelve notes to an octave, rather than eight. Y'all tin can hear the chromatic calibration if you play all the white and black keys from i C to the side by side C on a piano. After 1850, composers increasingly used notes from the chromatic calibration to make their music more than colorful. During the 1920due south, the Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg developed a type of music based on this scale. This music, called 12-tone music, has no tonal center.
The twelve tone scale was originally a seven tone scale, attributed [8] to Pythagoras and later to Plato. Pythagoras felt that whole number ratios were universally important, and that musical scales reflected aspects of the universe in important ways.
Why were these whole number ratios used? Why couldnt any old intervals be used? Because they sounded good; they felt good. Musically, such intervals are called consonant. A perfect fifth, the interval from C to G, for example, evokes a very pleasant sensation in our bodies. Other intervals, especially those that cannot be represented by the ratios of two integers, sound anomalous, unpleasing or at least unfinished. Composers use more or less anomalous harmonies in music today to heighten suspense or discomfort. This is specially noticeable in movie soundtracks; If yous dont get the sense of danger or suspense from the visuals, y'all certainly volition get it from the music.
Remnants of the vii tone scale all the same exist today, they are the white keys on a pianoforte. The other five tones were added later, and in fact there was never common agreement about their tuning; at that place were several Just scales, which varied primarily in the intervals of the black keys. The exact ratios were selected by the composer to fit the needs or the mood of the piece being performed.
So, music in the past was e'er based on vii tones. Music based on this vii annotation scale moves the body and the soul. It feels good. Modern music is not always based on this scale. This deposition of music is a reflection of the degradation of the spirit of homo, acquired by sin. This degradation is found in all of the arts because the arts accurately reflect the soul!
V. Seven In Light
The rainbow with its 7 colors reflected the dazzler and divinity of the seven commandments of the Children of Noah (Noachide):
- Belief in K-d practise non worship idols.
- Respect G-d and praise Him do not blaspheme His proper name.
- Respect human life do not murder.
- Respect the family unit practise not commit immoral acts.
- Respect for others rights and property do non steal.
- Respect all creatures - practise not eat the mankind of an beast while it is nevertheless alive.
- Cosmos of a judicial system pursue justice.
The sign of the covenant was the rainbow and it would serve every bit a permanent symbol of Divine Benevolence. It was the first fourth dimension the rainbow had always been seen in the world, although it had been created and readied for this moment at twilight later on the sixth day of creation, between the time Adam transgressed and the Sabbath, when G-d rested from all He had fabricated:
Avot Chapter five MISHNAH 6 . TEN THINGS WERE CREATED ON THE EVE OF THE SABBATH AT TWILIGHT, AND THESE ARE THEY: [i] THE MOUTH OF THE EARTH, [nine] [ii] THE Mouth OF THE WELL, [ten] [iii] THE Rima oris OF THE SHE-ASS, [11] [4] THE RAINBOW, [12] [5] THE MANNA, [vi] THE ROD [OF MOSES], [13] [vii] THE SHAMIR, [14] [eight] THE TEXT, [15] [ix] THE WRITING, [16] AND [x] THE TABLES. [17] AND SOME SAY: ALSO THE SEPULCHRE OF MOSES, OUR Teacher, [18] AND THE RAM OF ABRAHAM, OUR Begetter, [19] AND SOME SAY: ALSO THE DESTROYING [SPIRITS], [20] AND TONGS As well, MADE WITH TONGS. [21]
Sanhedrin 56a Our Rabbis taught: vii precepts were the sons of Noah commanded: social laws; [22] to refrain from blasphemy, idolatry; infidelity; bloodshed; robbery; and eating flesh cut from a living animate being. [23]
VI. Miscellaneous Sevens
Pesikta deRab Kahana, Midrashic Homilies for Shabbat Parah Adumah: [24] R. Hanan bar Pazzi interpreted the cited poetry [The sayings of the Lord are pure sayings [25] ] to apply to the pericope of the Red Moo-cow, which contains seven times seven [references to matters of purification, thus:]
seven times is the reddish moo-cow mentioned,
seven times the burning,
seven times the sprinkling,
vii times the laundering of garments,
seven times the thing of uncleanness,
vii times the matter of cleanness,
seven times the matter of priests.
And if someone should say to you that in fact they are defective [in not mentioning the priests seven times,] say to him, Moses and Aaron count. Now the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron, This is the statute of the police which the Lord has allowable. [26]
Vii seas is an aboriginal term describing all the seas and oceans of the world. Many people believe the seven seas referred to are the Arctic, Antarctic, N and S Pacific, North and South Atlantic, and Indian oceans.

The land of Israel is noted for seven species of fruit. It was from these seven that the Bikkurim, the first fruits, were brought:
Devarim (Deuteronomy) viii:6-nine Observe the commands of HaShem your God, walking in his ways and revering him. For HaShem your God is bringing you into a expert land--a country with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills; A land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and beloved; A country where staff of life will not exist deficient and you volition lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you tin dig copper out of the hills.
The seven are:
Wheat
Barley
Grapes
Figs
Pomegranates
Olives

Noah brought seven of each clean male person creature and seven of each make clean female creature:
Bereshit (Genesis) 7:i-2 And HaShem said unto Noah, Come yard and all thy house into the ark; for thee accept I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that [are] not make clean by 2, the male and his female person.

The shiva, the seven day period of mourning following a relatives burial was also observed past Jacobs family unit:
Bereshit (Genesis) 50:vii-x And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went upwards all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Arab republic of egypt, And all the business firm of Joseph, and his brethren, and his fathersouth house: only their fiddling ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. And in that location went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very groovy visitor. And they came to the threshing floor of Atad , which [is] beyond Jordan, and in that location they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his male parent vii days.
Strikingly, though common sense (and modernistic psychology) supports this notion of devoting seven days to deep mourning after a dandy personal loss, Jewish tradition does not meet the mourners as the primary beneficiaries of the shiva menstruation. Instead, the Talmud explains that the soul of the deceased hovers over the body for seven days, and the specter of people mourning over the body it formerly inhabited helps ease the souls pain:
Talmud - Shabbath 152a R. Isaac likewise said: Worms are as painful to the expressionless every bit a needle in the flesh of the living, for it is said, But his flesh upon him hath pain. [27] R. Hisda said: A mansouthward soul mourns for him [subsequently death] vii whole [days]. for it is said, And his soul mourneth for him; [28] and it is written, and he made a mourning for his father seven days. [29]
Rab Judah said: If there are none to be comforted for a dead person. [30] 10 people go and sit down in his place. [31] A sure man died in the neighborhood of Rab Judah. Every bit at that place were none to exist comforted, Rab Judah assembled ten men every day and they sabbatum in his identify. Afterward seven days he [the expressionless man] appeared to him in a dream and said to him, Thy listen exist at rest, for thou hast set my listen at rest. R. Abbahu said: The dead man knows all that is said in his presence until the top-rock [golel] closes [the grave]. [32] R. Hiyya and R. Simeon b. Rabbi differ therein: one maintains, until the top-stone closes [the grave]; whilst the other says, until the mankind rots away. He who says, until the mankind rots abroad. considering it is written, Simply his flesh upon him hath pain and his soul inside him mourneth. [33] He who says, until the summit-stone closes [the grave]. considering it is written, and the dust return to the globe equally it was, and the spirit return unto God. [34]
And why was Noah in the ark for seven days before it rained?
Bereshit (Genesis) 7:1-five HaShem then said to Noah, Go into the ark, you lot and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Accept with you seven of every kind of clean beast, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, And likewise seven of every kind of bird, male and female person, to continue their diverse kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for twoscore days and twoscore nights, and I will wipe from the face of the globe every living animal I accept fabricated. And Noah did all that HaShem commanded him.
Midrash Rabbah - Bereshit (Genesis) XXXII:7 . AND IT CAME TO PASS AFTER THE SEVEN DAYS (VII, x). This teaches that the Holy One, blessed be He, gave them a respite during the seven days mourning for the righteous Methusaleh, and so that they might repent, all the same they did not.

There are 2 festivals which are celebrated for vii days: Pesach [35] and Hag HaSuccoth: [36]
Shemot (Exodus) 23:fifteen Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Staff of life; for vii days eat bread fabricated without yeast, as I commanded you. Practise this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that calendar month y'all came out of Egypt. No i is to announced before me empty-handed.
Vayikra (Leviticus) 23:34 Say to the Israelites: On the fifteenth solar day of the 7th month HaShemsouthward Feast of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days.
Tisha BAv volition also become a vii day festival. The Prophet Zechariah said:
Zechariah 8:19 Thus says the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the 5th, and the fast of the 7th, and the fast of the tenth , shall become times of joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts to the house of Judah; ...
Rav Tzadok haKohen of Lublin fabricated a very brief simply important annotate on this idea, explaining that when Mashiach comes the Ninth of Av will indeed get a holiday like Pesach and Succoth, a seven-24-hour interval festival ending on the Fifteenth of Av. [37]
If the beginning twenty-four hour period of Pesach is parallel to Tisha BAv, perhaps the Fifteenth of Av may be paralleled with the 7th Day of Pesach. On the Seventh Solar day of Pesach, the Jews stood betwixt the Sea and an army of Egyptians.

In Vayikra (Leviticus) 12:1-13:59 we read: And HaShem said to Moshe saying: Speak to the children of State of israel saying: When a woman conceives and gives birth to a male, she shall be tmeah for seven days, similar by the days of niddah (menstruum) [38] . The Baal haTurim comments that the separation for seven days which is like niddah (the Torah calls for vii days of separation, as evidenced by this verse; current observance of the niddah laws follows Rabbinic injunction which calls for an boosted five days) is comparable to the seven days of mourning. This idea has its origin in the Zohar, and is understandable regarding niddah: The concept of mourning for vii days is mandue south response to death, and the menstruum of mourning is one of separation from club. The reference to the number seven should alert us to a possible connexion with the vii days of cosmos. Karhah said: Only two entered the bed, and seven left it: Cain and his twin sis, Abel and his two twin sisters [39] . We may at present sympathize why the separation period post-obit the birth of a daughter is twice equally long as the vii-day menstruum described thus far: Later on the nascence of a girl, the mourning for our mortality and hurting is that much greater, for the child born is not only the victim of mortality merely also the transmitter, as it were. And HaShem said to Moshe saying: Speak to the children of Israel saying: When a woman conceives and gives nativity to a male, she shall be tmeah for seven days, like by the days of niddah (catamenia)... The number eight represents that which is beyond the concrete, beyond the seven days of nature. The laws of niddah detail the counting of seven make clean days prior to immersion in the mikveh, which is referred to as mayim hayim, literally, living water or water of life. The Zohar [twoscore] compares the counting of the vii clean days with this counting of the seven weeks of the omer. But as a woman so has to count seven days, and then at present HaShem bade the Israelites count days for purity. The adult female had to count vii days, the people seven weeks. Why seven weeks? That they might be worthy to be cleansed past the waters of that stream which is called living waters, and from which issue seven Sabbaths. Observe that whatsoever human who does not count those 7 complete weeks and so as to qualify himself for purity is not chosen pure and is not in the class of pure, nor is he worthy to take a portion in the Torah.
We count seven complete cycles of seven for both the omer and the yovel (jubilee) year:
Vayikra (Leviticus) 23:15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
Here, we are instructed to count vii complete weeks between Pesach and Shavuot. Unlike the counting of Breather years, which is the obligation exclusively of the Beit Din Gadol (Sanhedrin), the counting of these seven weeks applies to the entire nation:
Vayikra (Leviticus) 25:eight-10 Count off vii sabbaths of years--seven times seven years--so that the vii sabbaths of years corporeality to a period of forty-9 years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the 10th day of the seventh calendar month; on the Solar day of Amende sound the trumpet throughout your land. Consecrate the fiftieth twelvemonth and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. Information technology shall exist a jubilee for you lot; each one of y'all is to return to his family unit property and each to his own association.
Most of this parsha is defended to a discussion of the Shmita laws, a bulwark of legislation that demanded that all soil in the land of State of israel lie fallow one time every vii years. In improver to this seven year Shmita wheel, there was also a 49 year, seven Shmita cycle, which culminated in the yovel twelvemonth.

There is an opinion that the Torah consists of vii books:
Talmud Shabbath 116a Nahmani, in R. Jonathans name, agrees: She [Wisdom] hath hewn out her seven pillars: this refers to the seven Books of the Torah.
The seven pillars of wisdom in the book of Proverbs refer to the seven books of the Torah. [41] This corresponds to Bamidbar (Numbers), which makes up the seven Books of the Law. [42]
Bamidbar x:35-36 These two pasukim are surrounded with upside downwardly nuns ( ׆ ). Chazal explain that these upside downwards nuns serve to mark off these two pasukim as a separate volume onto itself.
The Midrash explains that there are, indeed, vii books: i-Breishit, ii-Shmot, 3-Vayikara, 4-Bamidbar - up to but not including these two verses, v-these ii verse, 6-the rest of Bamidbar, 7-Dvarim.

The Arizal explains that numbers have their origins in the supernal spiritual worlds. Single digit numbers correspond to the concrete realm Asiyah, the sefirat Malkhut. Tens correspond to the angelic realm Yetzirah, the sefirat Tiferet. Hundreds correspond to the Neshama realm Beriah, the sefirat Binah, Imma. Being that hundreds emanate from the realm of Imma, they are the source of approval. Therefore, all offerings are the rectification of 100% of the produce offered.

[iii] According to Torah police, the following 7 letters (known past the acronymshatnez getz שעטזגץ ) must exist written with crowns: shin - ש , ayin - ע , tet - ט , nun - נ , zayin - ז , gimmel - ג , tzaddik - צ .
[4] That is ane reason why a person can make Habdalah up until Tuesday dark, the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday post-obit that Shabbat are still connected to it.
[5] Am Israel
[6] An acronym for Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim. This is how Jews call the collection of books known equally the Old Testament.

[9] Bamidbar (Numbers) 16:30, And if the Lord shall (be establish to) have created a (special) creation and the basis open her mouth, and consume them (i.east. Qorach and his confederates) upward, with all that appertain unto them . . .
[ten] Either the oral cavity of the well in the rock which Moses opened by hit the stone - Bamidbar (Numbers) 20:7-11), or the mouth of the Well of Miriam which followed the Israelites in the wilderness and which halted when they encamped, and which is taken past some to be the well referred to in Namidbar (Numbers) 21:16-eighteen.
[eleven] V. Bamidbar (Numbers) 22:28, And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam . . .
[12] V. Bereshit (Genesis) nine:13ff.
[13] V. Shemot (Exodus) 4:17.
[14] In Bibl. Heb. thorn, also flintstone used for engraving. In Rabbinic literature it as well denotes a legendary worm or insect which by passing over stones could make an incision for an engraving or split them through completely. Such an assumption was accounted necessary in view of the control that no iron tool be lifted at the building of an altar to God (Ex. twenty:22) and, of the study in I Kings Half-dozen, 7, that in fact no such tool was heard during the edifice of Solomonsouthward Temple.
[15] So M. and R. Jonah. And the Lord said unto Moses: Come upwards to Me into the mount, and exist there; and I will give thee the tables of rock, and the police force and the commandment which I have written. . (Ex. 24:12.) i.e., God had already one time written the Law before he called Moses into the mount. B. and others, the shape of the written characters on the Tables which were held to accept been of an unique nature in that the letters having been cut right through the stone, were not only equally readable on both sides, simply a letter such as the ancient Ayin which was O-shaped-could, in such circumstances, take been possible but by miracle (v. Shabbat 104a). This belief was based on Ex. 32:15: tables that were written on both their sides; on the i side and on the other were they written.
[xvi] Ex. 32:xvi, and the writing was the writing of God. Others (e.g. Rashi) vocalize, hither in the Mishnah, the writing or engraving musical instrument.
[17] Ibid. And the tables were the work of God.
[18] Deut. 34: 6.
[19] I.e., It was ordained on the eve of the Offset Sabbath at twilight that a certain ram in Abrahams time should be ownerless (hefker), so that when Abraham should crave one as a surprise-substitute for Isaac, he might notice one ready at paw which he could rightfully (i.east, without robbing anyone) advisable for a sacrifice (Fifty.).
[twenty] Est. 7:four (also Dan, 6:3; Ezra iv:13, fifteen, 22, Aramaic) i.due east., those who cause injury, practise harm, destroy. Demons. Souls unfinished earlier the First Sabbath gear up in.
[21] The idea is: There must take been tongs to hold the iron from which the offset man-made tongs were forged. V. Pes. 54a, where it is suggested that the first tongs could have been cast in a mold. The parallels mention some other Sabbath-eve creations such equally the rod of Aaron (Num. 17:16 ff), the garment of Adam (Gen. iii:21), the cave in which Moses and Elijah stood when God revealed himself to them. (Ex. 33:22; I Kings 19:ix ff.) With reference to the things enumerated in the Mishnah, Vocaliser (P.B. p. 200) remarks: All phenomena that seemed to partake at once of the natural and the supernatural were conceived as having had their origin in the interval between the shut of the work of creation and the commencement of the Sabbath. It is generally held that what is meant is that these things were created on the Sabbath eve at twilight, in posse, to become available in esse when the right fourth dimension for their use would arrive.
[22] I.e., to establish courts of justice, or, perhaps, to observe social justice (Nachmanides on Gen. 34:thirteen): Hast. Dict. (s.v. Noachian precepts) translates obedience to potency.
[23] These commandments may be regarded as the foundations of all human and moral progress. Judaism has both a national and a universal outlook in life. In the old sense it is particularistic, setting upward a people distinct and split up from others past its peculiar religious police force. But in the latter, it recognizes that moral progress and its concomitant Divine dearest and blessing are the privilege and obligation of all mankind. And hence the Talmud lays down the seven Noachian precepts, by the observance of which all flesh may accomplish spiritual perfection, and without which moral death must inevitably ensue. That possibly is the idea underlying the assertion (passim) that a pagan is liable to death for the neglect of whatever of these. The last mentioned is particularly instructive as showing the great importance attached to the humane treatment of animals; so much and then, that it is alleged to exist fundamental to human righteousness.
